Hover Mouse Here For H.R. 3200 Summary

Issue: Morality
This is the House Democrats' big health care reform bill. Broadly, it seeks to expand health care coverage with a new government-run insurance plan to compete with the private companies, with a requirement that all Americans have health insurance (whether you want it or not). More importantly, there is no explicit provision in the bill to prevent taxpayer funding of abortions as part of the health care benefit. Also, health care providers, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, will be forced to participate in certain health care-related actions, even if it violates their conscience, be it an abortion, turning off a ventilator, or dispensing an abortion-producing drug.

Issue: Free Speech
Although the Fairness Doctrine, requiring broadcasters to present opposing viewpoints on controversial issues, was abolished in 1987, this bill would inhibit the Federal Communications Commission from reintroducing it in the future. The Fairness Doctrine is being considered for reinstatement as a tool to control, in part, the content of conservative talk radio.
Our vote, as written: Yes
